Wasan has a certain style. She likes the Michael Jackson look,
but prefers Arabic pop music. She likes shiny jewelry and
complicated hair styles. She wears pink lipstick which her
mother and grandmother hate.
Amira never wears pants, and instead of stockings, pulls her
nylon socks up to her knees. She likes to sew, and creates
some very fancy clothes for special occasions. The red dress is
the typical Iraqi wedding party dress. She also has a
traditional dress, a big veil embroidered with gold.
22. Alcohol, tobacco, and firearms: Are they available and
what family members use them?
As good Muslims, the women don't smoke and rarely drink
alcohol. Men smoke, but not too much. They don't have any
firearms.

We don't like restaurant food, and prefer to eat at home.
Since the embargo, we eat less meat (only twice a week), but
most Iraqi people eat meat only once a week at most.
Shaimaa spends the day cooking. She also cooks for her
grandchildren. Right after work Alia jumps in the kitchen and
starts to cook the children's afternoon snack: vegetables, chicken, and eggs rolled in a pancake. Shortly after, she starts
to cook dinner.
